What is a Campaign? Why are campaigns started?

A Campaign is:

Campaign
An operation or series of operations energetically pursued to accomplish a purpose

Capital Campaign
An intensive, time-limited fundraising endeavour to meet a specific financial goal in order to fund a special project such as the construction of a facility or the acquisition of equipment. Capital campaigns are usually designed to improve an organization’s service to its community.

Awareness Campaign
An effort to make the public aware of a cause, project or situation through education

Annual Campaign
Any organized effort by an organization to obtain gifts on a yearly basis, usually to support in part or total the general operations. An Annual Campaign is often referred to as Annual Giving, and is defined as seeking funds on an annual or recurring basis from the same constituency. Income is generally used for operating budget support.

Campaigns are usually started because a charity is trying to raise money for a larger endevour or project. Due to the lack of publicly available funding from governments, budget constraints and competing priorities many charities are turning to the private sector for financial assistance. Private-sector donations are needed in order to achieve these goals that will shape the future of a society or community.

What is e-philanthropy?
E-philanthropy or often referred to as online philanthropy, allows interested donors to make charitable donations or get involved with causes that matter to them from the convenience of their home, office or school, by simply using the Internet and a computer.

CampaignFinder.com makes it very easy for individuals, corporations or foundations to find campaigns they are interested in supporting, either by board involvement, charitable donations or volunteering. CampaignFinder.com provides users with a convenient and easy way to get involved with campaigns worldwide.

How does CampaignFinder.com differ from other e-philanthropy sites?
Many e-philanthropy sites allow donors to identify an organization they would like to support. CampaignFinder.com, in contrast, connects donors directly to the fundraising campaign that is being conducted by the nonprofit or charity, allowing donors to contribute to a specific goal, rather than donating to a general or annual fund. CampaignFinder.com connects donors directly to the campaign, enabling a more transparent, engaging and informative donor experience. CampaignFinder.com also provides donors with a sense of accomplishment by allowing them to actively participate in achieving the campaign goal. On the flip side, it provides nonprofit organizations with an opportunity to showcase their fundraising campaigns to a whole new constituency – for free!

How do I find a campaign on your site?
CampaignFinder.com provides you with opportunities to locate campaigns with which you can get involved with by either making a donation or volunteering your time. You can use our campaign search engine to help you identify a nonprofit by name or keyword by simply using the brown search bar located on the top right-hand side of the homepage or at the top of every page. Click “Campaign Search” located in the search bar or “Find Campaigns” on the navigation bar to use our Advanced Search feature. Using our Advanced Search feature enables you to filter by sector and country.

What does it mean when the nonprofit/charity I am looking for isn’t listed on your site?
It is quite simple. If a charity or nonprofit is not listed in our campaign directory it simply means that they are currently not in a campaign, or have hot had the opportunity yet to showcase their campaign or have never conducted a fundraising campaign. If you know of a campaign that is not listed in our directory, contact us.

Where does CampaignFinder.com get the data?
CampaignFinder.com gets the data from publicly available sources or from the organization. Nonprofits create a “Campaign Profile” or update and claim and existing Campaign profile in order to showcase their campaign. By managing and updating their own Campaign Profile, nonprofits can add Cases for Support, Campaign Newsletters, Press Releases, etc in order to keep donors or potential donors constantly informed! Donors can see how their charitable donations are being used and can be easily kept up-to-date on campaign news and developments. The “My Favourite Campaigns” feature offered to registered users allows donors to save all their favourite campaigns in one area for easy viewing.

Does CampaignFinder.com approve, investigate or evaluate the campaigns listed on its site?
CampaignFinder.com makes every effort to ensure, but cannot guarantee, the accuracy of the information on CampaignFinder.com. Campaign Profiles are added to CampaignFinder.com by the charities/nonprofits themselves. However, the CampaignFinder.com team works to ensure that our due diligence is done and therefore investigates and evaluates the Campaign Profiles that are submitted. CampaignFinder.com has created a Fact Check Service Program to ensure that content in the Campaign Profile is verified. Please note that this service is not conducted on foreign charities or nonprofits due to the lack of information available in some countries.

Our Fact Check Service Program entails the following:
  • We are sure to verify a charity’s charitable status, number and privacy policy.
  • We contact the campaign contact to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data
  • We do check to see if the donation form/web link provided by the nonprofit does have Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology in place to secure your donation transaction and privacy.
  • We periodically random sample the content posted in a Campaign Profile, including checking references and collecting additional data
If a campaign has been “Verified”, we claim that we have used best efforts to determine the validity of the information in the Campaign Profile and have performed our due diligence.

Please note that CampaignFinder.com reserves the right to deny your campaign for any or no reason at our sole discretion.

Can I share a list of campaigns with others?
Yes. Our “Share the Campaign” feature offered to registered users allows you to Share a Campaign that is dear to you. Once logged in, you simply click on the “Share the Campaign” feature located in the “How You Can Help” tab of your favourite Campaign Profile or click on the “Share the Campaign” feature in the tool box located on the top right-hand side of the Campaign Profile and send an email. This is an easy way to notify your friends and family of the campaigns you are supporting by board involvement or by charitable donations. It is also an easy way for you to request that a donation be made to one of your favourite campaigns in your honour for birthdays, weddings and other special occasions.

Does CampaignFinder.com include campaigns from around the world?
Yes. CampaignFinder.com includes campaigns from all around the world, as well as Canadian and US charities that are registered in Canada or the US, but conduct charitable operations around the world. Donating online is one of the cheapest ways for nonprofits to receive donations. While for donors, the advantage of giving online, is that it is easier and much more convenient than writing a cheque, locating a stamp and having to find a mailbox.
